Exactly one month ago, I mentioned checking out the rest of Fela Kuti's discography. Well, here’s another one of his albums in case you haven’t gotten around to it yet.
In the album's title track, Zombie, Kuti criticizes the Nigerian military, which led to severe consequences..
The Nigerian military responded with swift brutality. A thousand armed soldiers swarmed the Kalakuta Republic. Inside, they beat the men (Kuti himself was taken to hospital unconscious following the attack), raped women, and burnt the commune to the ground. Amid the violence, Kuti’s elderly mother Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti was thrown down the stairs; she later died from her injuries.

Zombie is both a powerful and a great album.
