New week. New header image look. More Brazilian music! This is yet another fantastic album released during the country’s military dictatorship. While I can’t imagine how difficult life must have been in that era, one thing’s for sure: we got a ton of great music out of it.
The opening of "A Peleja do Diabo com o Dono do Céu ," with its title track, summed up the work's purpose well. Under a sound that was capable of mixing all the typical elements of Northeastern music, Zé Ramalho distilled strong social criticism: " With so much money circulating in the world / Those who have it ask for a lot, those who don't ask for more / They covet the land and all the wealth / Of the kingdom of men and animals / They even covet the plain of dreams / Eternal places to rest ."
